Horses on Parade Poster (2001) Rochester, NY

Equine fantasies, 158 of them, took up positions on the
streets of greater Rochester during the summer of 2001 in a community
project known as Horses on Parade.
Following in the hoofprints of other international cities like New York,
Toronto, Chicago and Zurich, Rochester trotted out Horses on Parade,
over 150 fiberglass horses painted and embellished by local and regional
artists and mounted in locations throughout the City of Rochester, Monroe
County and the region.
This wildly popular project drew thousands of visitors throughout the
summer of 2001. Following the exhibit, the horses were auctioned with
the proceeds going to charity. Horses on Parade was a collaborative
effort of High Falls Brewing Company, Dixon/Schwabl Advertising, the
City of Rochester and the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester.
High Falls Brewing Co. organized the project, obtaining the life-size
fiberglass steeds. Local organizations and businesses adopted them and
commissioned artists, ranging from professionals to school children,
to decorate the horses. The herd went on view in May and remained in
place until Sept. 13, when the horses were rounded up and sold at a
gala public auction with all proceeds going to Rochester-area charities.
